Conquering 18 Miles on Freeport Trail: The Perfect Long Run for Marathon Training
Today's long run was an absolute treat! I covered 18 miles through the Freeport Trail, and let me tell you, it's a beautiful place to run. The trail's quiet and serene atmosphere made it the perfect escape for my soul.
What made this run even more enjoyable was the company of friends who joined me for the first 9 miles. There's something special about sharing the miles with like-minded souls, isn't there? After parting ways with my running buddies, I continued on my own, lost in my thoughts and the rhythm of my footsteps.
The weather gods seemed to be on my side, providing nearly perfect running conditions with a delightful 55 degrees. The rain decided to make a brief appearance around miles 11-12, but it didn't dampen my spirits. If anything, the gentle raindrops felt refreshing, and they passed quickly, leaving me to savor the rest of my run.
Interestingly, this was only my second time running this path, and it hit me like a lightning bolt – it's an excellent simulation for my goal race in November! The trail's resemblance to the course I'll be tackling is striking, with some sections going slightly downhill and others uphill. I've already made a mental note to run more key workouts here to prepare myself for the big day.
I must confess; long runs hold a special place in my heart. They are my favorite training runs of the week! There's something about pushing my limits both mentally and physically that leaves me feeling incredibly fulfilled. It's almost like I crave that satisfying exhaustion that comes with a good long run.
Besides the physical benefits, long runs have a profound impact on my mental well-being. When I get to run slow and easy for an extended period, it's as if the worries of the world melt away, leaving me with a clear mind and renewed focus. I cherish these moments of mindfulness that running offers.
It's incredible how far I've come since training for my first marathon. Back then, the idea of completing such long distances felt daunting and overwhelming. But today, as I complete my 18-mile run with a smile on my face, I can confidently say that I've grown as a runner. Long runs have become more manageable, and I've embraced the challenges they bring.
As I look forward to my goal race in November, I'm filled with excitement and determination. The progress I've made fuels my confidence, and I know I'm well on my way to achieving my running dreams.
Here's to more beautiful runs, exciting milestones, and a love for running that continues to grow with each passing day! 🏃🏼♀️💫
